There aren’t too many things to think about when buying caravans Australia, where manufacturers offer deals but it would be useful if you just write down some stuff and questions you should ask your seller before you commit to this sale. Before you buy any caravan used or new, always be aware how much the towing capability is of your vehicle. It is absolutely futile to buy a brand new, fully equipped caravans, that will go nowhere because your car can not tow it. You will just have to have a vacation in your back yard, and that is not something you would like. It is always useful to have a professional by your side when making a decision about investing your money in something new. That is the case with new or used Caravans For Sale

. If you are new at buying caravans, find and bring an experienced caravan user or a professional that will accompany you to the dealership and help you make the best decision. This person will certainly prove to be helpful when assessing the caravan and will help you get a better pricing on it, or better equipment along with it. He/She will certainly know what you will really need when camping.

It is extremely important to assess the condition that the used caravan is in at the moment of sale thus deciding whether to buy or not. You should be especially careful about dumps. If the caravan has leaks, turn your back and walk away since this fault is something you will spend a lot of money to repair and your family will definitely not like a vacation in that kind of a caravan. Also before you buy you should consider several other things, like the caravan driving regulations in your country and if you are qualified to do that or not. Additionally have a specialist to take a look at the inner caravan electric installations to be certain that everything is functional and that for example your fridge will not go off in the middle of nowhere and get all your food to go bad. Before you go on a trip with your caravan, see that you have a professional to install your towing bar, it should be properly installed not to break any regulations and to meet the highest levels of security. Some say that it is probably best that you try and spend one night in the caravan so you will test its comfort and all the things you might need and you have not considered, before you take the vacation. Just move the family into the caravan for one night, right in your back yard. All Caravans Australia

dealerships do provide regular service so your caravan should be serviced regularly just like cars. The frequency is usually defined by regulations. And again if you have sufficient information it is safe to assess and buy a caravan by yourself. Otherwise always have a professional by your side helping you make the right decision.

U.S. President Obama’s farewell address focuses on accomplishment

Thursday, January 12, 2017

United States President Barack Obama gave his official farewell address on Tuesday night from McCormick Place in Chicago, reflecting on personal and national accomplishments. This is expected to be his last major speech before officially handing the reins to president-elect Donald Trump on January 20.

“Its why GIs gave their lives at Omaha Beach and Iwo Jima; Iraq and Afghanistan – and why men and women from Selma to Stonewall were prepared to give theirs as well.”

Obama’s speech was wide-ranging. He thanked his family and the nation, spoke of the need for unity, noted the country’s accomplishments and need for improvement in areas like education and civil rights, and spoke about the need for pride in U.S. accomplishments, citing milestones of U.S. history and of his presidency specifically. “It’s why GIs gave their lives at Omaha Beach and Iwo Jima; Iraq and Afghanistan – and why men and women from Selma to Stonewall were prepared to give theirs as well.”

The president also addressed his country’s troubled history with race and racism, an issue many black citizens feel he has avoided. Despite this, Chauncy Devega of Salon described the president as “a role model of calm, cool reflective black masculinity: a man utterly at home in his own skin.” Obama described the concept of a post-racial U.S. “unrealistic” and particularly cited the need for reform in education and the criminal justice system and greater acceptance of scientific evidence, particularly evidence supporting action to counteract climate change.

However, publications including The Washington Post and Salon have given particular focus to another aspect of the president’s address: the country’s increasing political tensions and controversies involving access to news and information, both accurate and inaccurate. “We become so secure and our bubbles,” said Obama, “that we start accepting only information, whether it’s true or not, that fits our opinions instead of basing our opinions on the evidence that is out there,” calling this trend “a third threat to our democracy.”

The Washington Post characterized Obama’s comment, “If every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and an undeserving minority, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves,” as a “not-so-subtle jab” at the campaign tactics of President-elect Donald Trump. The Telegraph describes Obama’s warnings about the need to protect democracy as “a thinly veiled slight to the divisive rhetoric of Donald Trump’s election campaign, which included attacks on Muslims, the disabled, women and immigrants.” The president went on to call on the public to “reject the first dawning of every attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest or to enfeeble the sacred ties that make us one America. We weaken those ties when we allow our political dialogue to become so corrosive […] We weaken those ties when we define some of us as more American than others when we write off the whole system as inevitably corrupt and when we sit back and blame the leaders we elect without examining our own role in electing them. It falls to each of us to be those anxious, jealous guardians of our democracy.”

Despite this, when the mention of Donald Trump brought boos from the crowd, Obama reiterated the importance of the long history of peaceful transfers of power from one president to the next: “No no no no no. […] I committed to President-elect Trump that my administration would ensure the smoothest possible transition, just as President Bush did for me.” However, this was not unaccompanied by a call to action. Near the end of the speech, he insisted citizens dissatisfied with elected officials should “lace up your shoes, grab a clipboard, get some signatures and run for office yourself.”

Overall, the departing president’s speech focused on accomplishment, echoing the “Yes we can” slogan from his 2008 campaign: “If I have told you eight years ago, that America would reverse a great recession, reboot our auto industry, and unleash the longest stretch of job creation in our history. If I had told you, that we would open up a new chapter with the Cuban people, shut down Iran’s nuclear weapons program without firing a shot, take out the mastermind of 9/11[…] If I had told you that we would win a marriage equality and secure the right to health insurance for another twenty million of our fellow citizens. If I had told you all that, you might have said our sights were set a little too high. But that’s what we did.”

But when the crowd began shouting “Four more years! Four more years!” Obama, with a small laugh, answered, “I can’t do that.”

Sweden’s Crown Princess marries long-time boyfriend

Monday, June 21, 2010

Sweden’s first royal wedding since 1976 took place Saturday when Crown Princess Victoria, 32, married her long-time boyfriend and former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36. The ceremony took place at Stockholm Cathedral.

Over 1,200 guests, including many rulers, politicians, royals and other dignitaries from across the world, attended the wedding, which cost an estimated 20 million Swedish kronor. Victoria wore a wedding dress with five-metre long train designed by Pär Engsheden. She wore the same crown that her mother, Queen Silvia, wore on her wedding day 34 years previously, also on June 19. Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, walked Victoria down the aisle, which was deemed untraditional by many. In Sweden, the bride and groom usually walk down the aisle together, emphasising the country’s views on equality. Victoria met with Daniel half-way to the altar, where they exchanged brief kisses, and, to the sounds of the wedding march, made their way to the the silver altar. She was followed by ten bridesmaids. The couple both had tears in their eyes as they said their vows, and apart from fumbling when they exchanged rings, the ceremony went smoothly.

Following the ceremony, the couple headed a fast-paced procession through central Stockholm on a horse-drawn carriage, flanked by police and security. Up to 500,000 people are thought to have lined the streets. They then boarded the Vasaorden, the same royal barge Victoria’s parents used in their wedding, and traveled through Stockholm’s waters, accompanied by flyover of 18 fighter jets near the end of the procession. A wedding banquet followed in the in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace.

Controversy has surrounded the engagement and wedding between the Crown Princess and Westling, a “commoner”. Victoria met Westling as she was recovering from bulemia in 2002. He owned a chain of gymnasiums and was brought in to help bring Victoria back to full health. Westling was raised in a middle-class family in Ockelbo, in central Sweden. His father managed a social services centre, and his mother worked in a post office. When the relationship was made public, Westling was mocked as an outsider and the king was reportedly horrified at the thought of his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he did so when he married Silvia. Last year, Westling underwent transplant surgery for a congenital kidney disorder. The Swedish public have been assured that he will be able to have children and that his illness will not be passed on to his offspring.

Westling underwent years of training to prepare for his new role in the royal family, including lessons in etiquette, elocution, and multi-lingual small talk; and a makeover that saw his hair being cropped short, and his plain-looking glasses and clothes being replaced by designer-wear.

Upon marrying the Crown Princess, Westling took his wife’s ducal title and is granted the style “His Royal Highness”. He is now known as HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. He also has his own coat-of-arms and monogram. When Victoria assumes the throne and becomes Queen, Daniel will not become King, but assume a supportive role, similar to that of Prince Phillip, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Botox}

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Botox

by

Melanie Vasseur

The uses of botox seem to be increasing all the time despite all the hype over its use; one has to wonder just what it is that this substance is and how it works. To understand exactly what it is and does, we first have to look at just how this amazing miracle of modern science came to be. Botulinum toxin was first researched back in the 1960’s; it was tested for use as a treatment for disorders of the mind.

Then a few decades later in 1989, the Federal Drug Administration in America finally approved its use to treat disorders associated with vision; conditions that caused uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes were the first people to benefit. More research was carried out into other medical uses and in 2000 it was allowed to be used on patients that had a cervical dystonia condition; this helps people with contractions in the upper back and shoulder and neck area, plus other eye disorders. The strange discovery they made quite by accident was that botox helps to reduce the visible lines between the eyebrows; this discovery won over the FDA who agreed that it could be used in cosmetic procedures from 2002.

Botox has a paralyzing affect when it is injected into areas of the forehead which control the muscles that cause frowning; given sufficient treatments, frown lines that the person has lived with for many years will gradually fade. With continued use, the frown lines in most instances will completely vanish but the same effect can be found in lines at the sides of the eyes, mouth and other forehead lines. To allay any fears about injection toxin into our bodies these injections only contain a diluted and purified version of the poison; if it were not for the purification process this treatment could make us very sick.

Of course we all like to laugh and obviously use our faces for other gestures but the muscles controlling this are the cause of the line we see and obviously, these injections can stop this. This treatment is able to take back, for a temporary period, all those years of lines, creases and wrinkles that has formed from the use of our facial muscles; many skin age reduction cream’ manufacturers have tried to produce creams that reduce facial line but this is the only treatment that works, currently. Because botox paralyzes the facial muscles, normal movement, expressions and gestures are almost impossible to make; many people believe that overuse leaves the recipient with a look similar to that of a mannequin.

People still have enough movement to look fairly normal but not enough to cause these wrinkles; so in fact by taking these injections they help you to look younger. Injections of this very popular cosmetic treatment are still costly; often considered something only celebrities can afford because a single injection can cost anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars. As a recent form of cosmetic enhancement it may be some time before the full facts about long term botox use will be known but for now, most people really aren’t that concerned.

US adds 173,000 jobs in August; unemployment rate drops to seven year low

Monday, September 7, 2015

The US economy added 173,000 jobs in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The unemployment rate fell from 5.3 to 5.1 percent, the lowest since April 2008.

Although August job gains were lower than most economists forecast, job growth numbers for June and July were revised upwards by a combined 44,000. Average job gains over the past three months stand at 221,000, compared to March-May’s 189,000 monthly average. Over the past twelve months, job growth has averaged 247,000 per month.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.3 percent, or 8 cents, marking the largest increase in earnings in seven months. Hourly earnings had risen by 6 cents in July. Wages have risen by 2.2 percent over the past year.

Job growth in August was primarily concentrated in the health care and social assistance, financial activities, and professional and business services sectors. Those three areas of the economy added a combined 108,000 jobs. Food service and drinking places employment increased by 26,000 over the month, and other economic sectors saw employment hold steady. Manufacturing, on the other hand, saw employment decline by 17,000 in August. A stronger dollar and worldwide economic weakness make US exports less desirable, leading to a flattening in manufacturing employment so far this year after steadily rising in the early years of the US economic recovery.

The solid overall job gains led analysts to slightly raise expectations for a decision by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates this month. Investors raised the likelihood of a September rate increase from 26 percent before the jobs report to 30 percent, and stocks dropped by over one percent on Friday. “The payrolls data is certainly good enough to allow for a Fed rate hike in September,” said Deutsche Bank’s head of currency strategy, Alan Ruskin. “The big question is still whether financial market volatility will scupper the plans.”

“This is the first time the market has looked at a Fed meeting and really has no idea what the Fed is going to do,” said Mark Kepner, a New Jersey equity trader with Themis Trading. “Right now you’re looking at the overall uncertainty and that’s what’s hanging on the market. I don’t think this number in and of itself changes how somebody’s going to vote.”

Ford’s US auto sales spike, surpassing GM

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Ford Motor Company said on Tuesday that its sales in the United States rose 43% in February compared to the same period last year, as the automaker outsold rivals Toyota and General Motors.

The strength of our new products … are resonating with customers

Ford said that total sales improved to 142,285 units, compared to 141,951 units sold by GM. Additionally, Ford said that its share of the total US car market rose to 17%, up from 14% a year ago. The increase was better than analysts had predicted, and Ford’s stock rose to a five-year high in morning trading, before declining later in the day. Ford’s sales were significantly influenced by a 74% increase in fleet sales to businesses. Rental car agencies alone accounted for around 30,000 units sold. Sales to retail consumers increased only 28%.

The increases were led by sales of two sedans, the Fusion and Taurus, which rose 166.5 and 93.3% respectively, although sales of other models such as SUVs and pickup trucks also increased. Both models were significantly redesigned last year, and analysts said that improved quality from such cars were driving the increases.

Other companies also reported February sales today, nearly all reporting sales gains as well, although none as large as those of Ford. Toyota was the sole exception to the sales gains, as their sales declined 8.7%, as the company was faced with a global recall during the month that led to a temporary stoppage of production for some models.

“The strength of our new products … are resonating with customers,” said Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of sales and marketing. However, he believed that traditional Toyota customers were not buying rival autos, but rather awaiting the results from the recalls.

Supreme Court of Canada strikes down “unconstitutional” anti-terror legislation

Saturday, February 24, 2007

The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled unanimously 9-0, in favour of a ruling that overturns controversial anti-terror legislation that allowed the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to indefinitely detain suspects without revealing the reason for their arrest or detention.

The judgement, summarised by Justice Beverley McLachlin in the ruling, gave Parliament a one year grace period to create new legislation that will fall within Canada’s constitution and Charter.

The CSIS security certificates have caused five Canadians to spend years in prison since the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States – accused of ties to terrorism, but without trial, and not even allowed to be informed of the evidence against them for reasons of national security.

The certificates only target Canadians who do not hold citizenship, such as landed immigrants and refugees.

The three Canadian detainees who took their cause to the Supreme Court last June include Algerian-born Mohamed Harkat from Ottawa, Syrian-born Hassan Almrei from Toronto and Moroccan-born Adil Charkaoui from the University of Montreal. The ruling also applies to Egyptian-born Canadians Mahmoud Jaballah and Mohammad Mahjoub, both residents of Toronto.

Hygiene Guide For Bartenders

Submitted by: Ryan Barm

These are a range of standards to remember regarding cleanliness and safety measures in a public bar. It is easy to forget that these standards are also laws in many states which is why they need to be mentioned for the protection of your coworkers, yourself, and even your customers! Losing a customer can be as simple as not following these guidelines on a single shift.

Before each shift make sure your personal hygiene is taken care of. Your clothes, hair, and revealed skin should look well-kept. The better you look, the more it will reflect in tips. You want to be sure you have fresh breath, and smell good as well. The distance between you and the customer is less than you think. They will be able smell any bad odors you may be giving off. So if you just left the gym or woke up from a nap, clean yourself up before heading to your shift.

Keep your bar clean and organized so that customers have no reason to turn away. Always wash and shine bar equipment like bar spoons and cocktail strainers once you’ve used them before serving the next drink. You should wash your hands often and dry them – particularly just after contact with citrus garnishes. You’ll avoid scaling of the hands and the transfer of bacteria.

Take a look at your your hands – especially your fingernails. Customers can always see them and will notice if they re particularly dirty. Keep your nails cut short and try to have any noticeable smudges on them. They re hands for goodness sake, but they also touch everything you serve up. Use neutral nail polish colors so the focus is on you and your drinks instead of your bright nail polish. Avoid overfilling glasses. It will end in spills which can get on the customers clothes or all over the bar. If it ends up on the floor then it encourages slips which can be a safety hazard. Do yourself a favor and leave room in the glass so the customer can safely carry it from point A to point B.

Try to remember the most important rule in the food and beverage industry, Always be doing something. You should never find yourself saying, There s nothing to do. It is the fastest way to get yourself fired. If you don t have customers approaching the bar look around, you can find several things to do in your downtime. Are the liquor bottles organized, with labels all facing the same way and clean on the outside? When was the last time you polished all of the pint and wine glasses? Can you arrange your station so that it is easier to use when you finally get a customer? How about used napkins, glassware, and straws around the bar? This rule of thumb can be used by servers, barbacks, and bartenders alike. Always find something to do and make yourself useful. Otherwise you may be seeing your way out of a job.

Remember to be proactive regarding cleanliness. The importance cannot be stressed enough. Both your employer and your customer will appreciate the effort made.

Study tests the use of Google as an aid for medical diagnoses

Friday, November 10, 2006

In an internet-based study published today on the website of the British Medical Journal, Australian investigators tested how well Googling could help to establish a difficult diagnosis. The search results met against their criteria in 15 out of 26 cases.

Previous anecdotes of the use of Google in reaching a difficult diagnosis are presented in the paper. In a case described in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), a physician diagnosed IPEX syndrome after submitting the typical diagnostic clues to the search engine. A patient’s father replied to doctor’s saying that his son had acute subclavian vein thrombosis of unknown origin: “But of course hehas Paget-von Schrötter syndrome.”

Hangwi Tang and Jennifer Hwee Kwoon Ng from the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane selected clinical cases from the NEJM blind to the correct diagnosis. They selected 3 to 5 rather specific features, searched Google, and selected the 3 disorders from the results that seemed to fit the case best. If one of those was right, Google was said to be “right”.

The scientists admit that an internet search probably works better with specific symptoms rather than with phrases such as “fever ill pain”. Also, the percentage may depend on the operating physician’s knowledge base, and the test was not double-blind.

Experts commented that the internet is not a replacement for doctors, but should be seen as a way of supporting doctors and patients. A spokeswoman for the Patient Association added that “a lot of sites are not credible. There are lots of good sites out there, but we also know that there are many that are not credible.”
