Making Changes With Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans

Submitted by: Dennis Jarvis

One of the daunting issues that cause people stress when choosing any insurance policy is that they’re making a decision now for an untold period of time and unknown status in the future. Our brains just plain do not like this risk of making a bad decision and this why we fret over many insurance choosing decisions. Picking an Medicare supplement insurance plan is no different and in fact, the period of time and the probably health related issues during that particular period of time is risk and more prolonged than most other health insurance decisions. How easy (or hard) is it to make changes to your Medicare supplement insurance plan in the future? Good question. Before you can decide on any given Medigap plan, it’s best to first understand if you can change it later on.

For most people, there first Medicare supplement insurance will be guaranteed issue which means they cannot be turned down for health. There certain qualifying events with turning 65 and/or leaving a group insurance plan age 65 or older being the two most common. When these guaranteed issue triggers occur, you generally can get Part A and Part B plus a Medicare Supplement plan within a certain period of time regardless of health. What if you choose a plan and decide that it’s not the right plan for you?

If you’re in good health, you may be able to change Medicare supplement insurance plans at any time. The health questions to qualify for this change are actually pretty serious so it’s not terribly difficult to qualify. Of course, if you have more serious health issues, you may not be able to make the change and will have to remain on the initial plan you chose. Keep in mind that if you’re still in your initial guaranteed issue window, you may be able to change regardless of health. If you have significant health issues, make sure the initial plan is the right choice for you during this time or better yet, work with a licensed agent to choose the right plan up front so you have no issues later on.

If you move out of the State, you can still keep your Medicare supplement plan so no changes are required. The plan of a given State will “travel” with you since the network is essentially nationwide. What if your on an Advantage plan and move out of the available area where they cover? That can also be a qualifying event to change to a Medicare supplement insurance plan. The same would hold true if your carrier stops offering Medicare supplement plans. Both of these situations where you involuntarily lose your Advantage or Medicare supplement plan should trigger the ability to change plans regardless of health. Involuntary is the key word there. You can’t just drop a plan by not paying it or voluntarily canceling it in order to change plans.

Ultimately, to reverse the metaphor, a good defense is a strong offense so choose wisely up front. This is partially a function of benefits (check out the F Standardized Medicare Supplement Plan), carrier strength (which affects long term pricing, and of course, current pricing. We have written articles on comparing the carriers, comparing the Medicare supplement plans, and tips about pricing for further investigation. Since you’re making a decision potentially for decades, picking the right plan up front can save you hardship later on.

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.

UK pay freeze on public sector employees will end next year

Tuesday, October 26, 2021

On Monday, United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak revealed in a media briefing that he will confirm in his Budget, scheduled for half-noon Wednesday, an end to the partial pay freeze on 2.6 million public sector employees introduced last November, alongside a 6.6% increase to the National Living Wage.

Sunak used the fall in wages during COVID-19 to justify his “pause” in public sector employees’ pay that exempted 2.9 million National Health Service workers and those earning under GBP24 thousand per year, but applied to 2.6 million teachers, police, civil servants and members of the British Armed Forces. While a pay rise is in order from spring next year, the precise details are pending consultation by independent advisers and pay review bodies, according to the i. The Guardian writes some 5.7 million public sector employees could see a pay rise.

In addition, about two million on minimum wage, including some from the above 5.7 million, could benefit from an increase in the national minimum and national living wages. According to the i and The Guardian, the National Living Wage applicable for over-23s will increase by 59p to GBP9.50 an hour from next April, about GBP1000 for a full-time worker, in line with recommendations from independent advisory board the Low Pay Commission. The National Minimum Wage for those aged 21 to 22 will rise 82p to GBP9.18 an hour, and the Apprenticeship Rate will go up 51p to GBP4.81 an hour.

However, according to senior research economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies Tom Waters: “While this boosts earnings for full-time minimum wage workers by over £1,000 a year, those on universal credit will see their disposable income go up by just £250 because their taxes rise and benefit receipt falls as their earnings increase.” Shadow chief secretary to the Treasury and Labour MP Bridget Phillipson said the offer was “underwhelming”, and “[m]uch of it will be swallowed up by the government’s tax rises, universal credit cuts and failure to get a grip on energy bills”. UK inflation rose 2.9% the year to September, according to the Office of National Statistics.

Phillipson contrasted Sunak’s measures with those of a Labour government, according to The Independent: “With a new deal for workers, exploitative practices like zero hours contracts banned, Fire and rehire outlawed, a minimum wage of at least £10 an hour and fair pay agreements, a Labour government will transform work and raise standards.”

However, the Daily Mirror says Mr Sunak is considering a rise to GBP10.50 an hour, and the qualifying age for the National Living Wage lowered from 25 to 21 by the next election in 2024. This would match or exceed Labour’s pledge of “a decent income that you can raise a family on”: an increase of the “minimum wage to at least £10 an hour”.

Mr Sunak said during the media briefing that Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle would later call “riding roughshod” over parliamentarians, that it was “[t]he economic impact and uncertainty of the virus” that led to the “difficult decision to pause private pay”, which “[a]long with our Plan for Jobs, this action helped us protect livelihoods at the height of the pandemic. And now, with the economy firmly back on track, it’s right that nurses, teachers and all the other public-sector workers who played their part during the pandemic see their wages rise.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had announced at the Conservative Party conference his intent to create a “high-pay, high-skill economy” after Brexit, but it may take years for salary growth to catch up with mounting financial pressures, according to the i.

According to The Guardian, analysis by the Resolution Foundation indicates those impacted by the freeze earned nearly 8% less than their private sector counterparts. The differential widened to 0.6% for all public sector employees, including those exempt. The Office of National Statistics writes total private sector pay grew 8.3% from June to August 2021, while public sector pay grew only 2.5%.

The Relationship Between Healthcare And The Economy: 3 Important Points

By Greg Garner

A popular maxim says that money rules the world, while in reality the state of a societys healthcare system directly influences the ability of its citizenry to contribute to the economy. There is a direct co-relation between healthcare and economy, which has given rise to the Health Economics discipline.

Health economics studies the functionality and the efficiency of healthcare systems. The other co-relation between healthcare and the economy is that they both rely on the power of demand and supply. When it comes to health, value is equated to the quality of service offered while ideologically a price should not be placed on health.

On the other hand, economy dictates a societys ability to spend on healthcare. When it comes to an individual level; an individuals salary dictates the quality of healthcare that he can receive. The relationship between economy and health is varied from one society to another. Societies which offer employment-based covers can be considered as progressive societies. Most growing societies have poor economies which directly reflect on the state of their healthcare systems.

To summarize, a societys healthcare and the economy have a direct relationship. It all falls down to the measures put in place by governments to ensure that its citizens have access to quality healthcare systems regardless of the state of their economies.

NFL: Ricky Williams applies for reinstatement

Friday, April 6, 2007

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, who has applied for reinstatement to the NFL, told ESPN Radio’s Dan Patrick on Friday that he hasn’t gotten high on drugs “in maybe three years.” Williams credited yoga with replacing drugs to ease stress.

Williams was suspended in April 2006 for violating the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy. Reinstatement to the league requires clinical evaluation and sending a hand-written letter to Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL. Williams stated: For the most part, as long as you follow the rules, you have a pretty good shot to be reinstated. Half of it is testing and the other half is you have to talk to someone on a weekly basis.

During the radio broadcast, Patrick asked Williams when the last time he had been drug tested. Williams’ anwser was Two minutes ago. and that he had passed.

Williams blamed the high levels of stress involved in playing football with his use of Marijuana. He said the only way to deal with it was “to go home, relax on the couch, roll up a joint and take a couple of puffs.”

Williams told Patrick during the interview that he hadn’t spoken with new Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron yet. Addressing what the Dolphins may or may not choose to do with him, Williams said that he would be “fine with whatever happens.”

Williams said, when asked why he wants to return to the NFL: “For me, it’s a test to see if all this work I’ve done is really worth something. If I can go to the NFL and have success, that would speak a lot for yoga and what I’ve learned and offer a lot of people who have dealt with the same issues I have a way out.”

Main belt asteroid No. 274301 named ‘Wikipedia’

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, January 31, 2013

A main belt asteroid, No. 274301, has been named after Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia. The information became available on the Minor Planet Center’s website yesterday.

The decision of the Committee for Small Body Nomenclature to assign the name “Wikipedia” to the asteroid was published in the Minor Planet Circular of January 27, published online yesterday, page 82403. Wikimedia Ukraine board member Andriy Makukha proposed the name. It was submitted to the Committee by the head of the Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory in Ukraine, Yuri Ivashchenko.

The official dedication of the name says:

Wikipedia is a free, copyleft, collaboratively edited online encyclopedia launched in 2001. In 11 years of its compilation it became one of the largest reference works and one of the most visited web-sites on the Internet. It is developed in more than 270 languages by enthusiasts from all over the world.

The asteroid 274301 Wikipedia was discovered by the team of astronomers of Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory. At first it was observed by that team on August 25, 2008 at 22:47 (UTC). How can you manage barking which is a dog s nature? Barking is the only way dogs can communicate verbally and to express how they feel such as when they are happy, sad, hungry, irritated, amazed and just to catch your attention. Now, the question would be, does your dog s barking annoy you? Is your dog barking at anyone, at anything or at any time? Do you want your dog to be trained and behave properly? Buy him a barking collar. This is one of the best training products for your beloved dog that you have to invest as an owner. How do barking collars for dogs work? Once the dog barks, there s a warning audible sound he will get from the collar. When the dog continues barking, he will receive a static or electric shock or a scent correction. Check the list below to know more about barking collars.

4) The most accessible and affordable in the market.

5) There are many sizes of barking collars. It can fit a puppy or a dog.

6) Your dogs will relate barking with a negative consequence.

7) The three kinds of barking collars are static collar, ultrasonic collar and citronella collar.

a. Static collar is the most effective way to train your dog because he will associate his barking with the electric shock that will make him realize that barking is not a good behavior. When the dog barks a particular pitch and tone, it will be triggered by a microphone to send a small electric current to the dog therefore he will stop barking.

b. Another effective collar is the ultrasonic collar which is like the static collar. The difference between static and ultrasonic collars is that instead of electric shock, it will make a high-pitched horrible sound that dogs can only hear with their sensitive ears. When they hear the sound, they will feel uneasiness thus make the dog stop barking.

c. The last kind is the citronella collar. When the dog barks, it will spray a minimal amount of citronella oil on his face enough to make him stop barking. This collar is very harmless to the dog because it doesn t contain hazardous chemicals. It affects the different senses such as smelling, hearing, feeling and seeing.

US Senator Ted Stevens convicted on 7 counts

Monday, October 27, 2008

United States Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was convicted Monday on seven counts of failing to report gifts. Stevens, a senior United States Senator from Alaska and the longest serving Republican in the Senate, had been accused of not reporting tens of thousands of dollars worth of gifts from the VECO Corporation including free house remodeling. The jury in the District of Columbia found Stevens guilty on all seven counts.

Bill Allen, VECO’s CEO, is a longtime friend of Stevens and much of the case involved the specific interaction between Stevens and Allen. Allen had been previously convicted and had agreed to testify against Stevens and to record conversations he had with Stevens. The gifts given to Stevens included a massage chair that Stevens claimed was a loan but prosecutors noted was in Stevens house for over seven years.

Stevens is up for reelection and was facing a tough reelection bid before the convictions. It is unlikely that Stevens will retain his seat in the Senate given the convictions.

Stevens is considered to be a moderate Republican and was a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership. While a long-time Senator with many accomplishments, Stevens is known to many for a speech against net neutrality in which he referred to the internet as a series of tubes.

The New York Times has speculated that out-going United States President George W. Bush might pardon Stevens.
