How to Install a Car GPS; DIY vs. Professional Navigation System Installation

by

Maria Allen

Always getting lost? Frequently need directions for business or family trips? Want to add the convenience of a navigation system to your car or truck? GPS navigation systems are one of the most popular aftermarket upgrades on the market today, and installing one of these systems in your vehicle is a great way to take your driving experience up a notch. However, you may want to consider hiring a professional to install your new nav system, as these installations can be surprisingly complex. Of course, putting a portable car GPS in your vehicle can be as simple as sticking a suction cup to the windshield. But if you’re considering installing an integrated, in-dash navigation system, you might want to think twice before you tackle the job yourself.

Aesthetics

When it comes to installing a car navigation GPS, you have to consider how it will look, as well as how it will perform. In most cases, putting in a navigation system involves creating an opening in the dash for the screen, and if not done properly, your new navigation equipment will hardly look its best. From crooked screens to jagged edges to scratched, scraped, and damaged dashes, you’d be amazed at the number of things that can go wrong when you try to put in an in-dash navigation screen all on your own. On the other hand, the installers at your area mobile electronics shop have performed hundreds of similar installations in the past. These professionals can expertly cut the hole for the screen, locating it in the optimal position for easy use, and finish the installation in a smooth, seamless way. When installed by experienced pros, aftermarket car navigation systems can look like they’ve been there since the day the vehicle rolled off the assembly line!

Performance

Of course, looks aren’t everything. The whole point of installing a car GPS system is for its navigational assistance and convenience, so you’ll also want to make certain it is installed properly for optimal performance. Lose wires, damaged equipment, and other common amateur mistakes can mean that the gyro, compass, speed sensor, or other parts of the system don’t function correctly, disabling your GPS (sometimes permanently). At your local car electronics shop, their technicians are trained professionals with a full understanding of the best way to hook up your new navigation system. From securely soldered wires to fully functional components, they can ensure you’re able to enjoy every single feature of your new car navigation GPS to its fullest.

Cost

Putting in your own in-dash navigation system obviously carries a lower price tag than using the professional installers at your local

car audio

shop. That’s because you’re paying just for the equipment, not for the installation labor as well. So if low cost is your primary criterion, you may want to look into do-it-yourself installation. For the best results, though, make sure you’re being honest about your car electronics installation skills: If you have some technical knowledge, the correct tools, and the ability to closely follow installation diagrams, you should be able to hook up your new GPS car navigation components properly. On the other hand, if you don’t have the expertise or tools, the results may not meet your expectations in terms of aesthetics or performance, so do a quick assessment of whether or not you really are equipped to handle your own navigation system installation

US raids Iran ‘liaison office’, Russia says it is unacceptable

Friday, January 12, 2007

The U.S. armed forces detained five Iranians working at a “liaison office” located in Erbil, Iraq before dawn on Friday. Sources said that the U.S. forces first landed their helicopters around the building, then broke through the office’s gate, disarmed the guards, confiscated some documents and certain objects, arrested five suspected terrorists, and then left for an undisclosed location.

However, there was no raid on the Iranian Consulate General as earlier reported. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told Agence France-Presse that the building raided was “not a consulate or a government building”, which appears to be confirmed by the Iraqi foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, who said the Iranians were working at an office that had government approval and was in the process of being approved as a consulate, but was not a Consulate nor the Iranian Consulate General. The US is strategically insisting that they raided a “liaison office” instead of a Consulate to avoid being found in violation of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Kamynin said that the raid was absolutely unacceptable and was a violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The Kurdistan Regional Government also expressed their shock and disapproval of the raid.

On Thursday’s hearing on Iraq, Senator Joseph Biden (D-Delware), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the Bush Administration did not have the authority to send U.S. troops on cross-border raids. Biden said, “I believe the present authorization granted the president to use force in Iraq does not cover that, and he does need congressional authority to do that. I just want to set that marker.” After the meeting, Biden sent a follow-up letter to the White House asking for an explanation from the Bush Administration on the matter.

On Thursday morning, Iran’s foreign ministry official sent a letter to Iraq’s foreign ministry asking Iraq to stop the Bush Administration from interfering with Iraq-Iran relations, and has protested the raid on its liaison office. The official said, “We expect the Iraqi government to take immediate measures to set the aforesaid individuals free and to condemn the U.S. troopers for the measure. Following up on the case and releasing the arrestees is a responsibility of primarily the Iraqi government and then the local government and officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan.”

Man in UK convicted for having obese dog

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

A British man, Ronald West, has been convicted of animal neglect after authorities received complaints about his five-year-old dog being severely overweight. Authorities discovered the case of neglect in December 2008 after a neighbor complained that West’s Border Collie Taz appeared to be too fat.

When authorities arrived at West’s residence, they found Taz’s feces scattered around the house and in every room. Authorities made several more visits to West’s home until March 2009, at which point they determined that there had been no improvements in living conditions, and so they seized the dog. Taz weighed 88lbs (40kg) when authorities seized him.

West had said that he had been ill with the flu and was unable to clean up after Taz or take him for walks. He admits that he and his friends overfed Taz which led to his obesity, but West says it was not intentional.

“I’ll put my hands up and say I’m guilty of [Taz] being overweight, but it wasn’t deliberate. You can be cruel with kindness,” said West in March, according to the police report.

West’s sentencing has been postponed because he failed to appear at today’s hearing. When sentenced, West could face a fine of up to £5,000 (US$7,581), six months in prison, and may be forbidden from owning any pets.

This Invisible Item Can Give You Greater Health Benefits}

Submitted by: Willie Jones

An abundance of this item creates a sense of well being and a lack of it can make us feel lethargic, depressed or moody. What are we talking about? Negative ions! You cannot see it, smell it or touch it but its effect on us is very real.

An abundance of negative ions is found in nature. Youll find plenty of it at the beach where the waves are lapping on the shore, or the fresh mountain breeze and the cabin in the forest. If you have ever stood at the base of a waterfall it is not just the spectacular view that makes you feel so good. It is the abundance of negative ions that surround you that can give you that sensation. (No wonder Niagara Falls is called the honeymoon city.)

According to Pierce J Howard PhD, and author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research, says that negative ions increase the mood chemical Serotonin and that it also increases the blood flow of oxygen to the brain there by making you feel alert, a decrease in drowsiness and a sense of well being.

If you live in the city, especially a big city with tall buildings, the amount of negative ions decreases little to none. On top of that, many of us sit in front of our computers or TVs which produce positive ions. Too many positive ions make us feel tired, draggy and depressed. How many times in a day do you have to get away from your computer so you dont go somewhat comatose and then going out to lunch revives you?

Its not just the TVs and computers that can make us feel awful, but the air conditioning system in the office, home, stores etc produce massive amounts of positive ions. This is also a reason why people traveling by airplane arrive so exhausted. They have been swamped for hours by positive ions. The air gets stale and stuffy and we just want to get out of there.

Studies done by Dr. Albert P. Krueger and Dr. Richard F. Smith at the University of California made this discovery. The bronchial tubes and trachea are lined with tiny filaments called cilia which in normal conditions move back and forth in a whip like motion of about 900 beats a minute. Together with mucus, this keeps our air passages clear of dust and pollen. When they exposed the trachea to negative ions, it increased the amount of mucus and increased the cilia movement to 1200 beats a minute. Exposing the trachea to positive ions decreased the cilia movement to 600.

Ive read numerous studies where they put groups of people in a room to do regular tasks, one with an ion generator in it and one without. They all had similar results of the room that used the ion generator producing negative ions were happier and up to 25% more productive. But there was one study that caught my eye where they had 2 groups that were told they had an ion generator in their rooms. Unbeknownst to them, only one room actually had theirs turned on. They had the same results of the room with the ion generator being happier and more alert. The other room did not do so well.

It is no wonder then that we flock to vacation destinations like beaches or ski resorts. You may think that you feel better because you are away from the stresses of work, and that is valid, but your body is already rejuvenated because of the negative ions. Just get more of it and see if you dont notice the difference. Open your windows and let the fresh air in, go to the beach or enjoy the air after a storm. Storms produce enormous amounts of negative ions. You can even simulate a water fall by turning on your shower every morning. This is why you wake up and feel so much better and ready for the day. Get out of the cement boxes of the city and walk in the park. Do this for yourself and see if you dont feel better.

I hope this helps!

Volunteers endure bed-rest study

Tuesday, March 22, 2005Volunteers began a 60 day bed-rest marathon on March 19 to study simulated weightlessness effects on women astronauts. The study, Women International Space Simulation for Exploration(WISE), is conducted at the MEDES Space Clinic in Toulouse, France.

The 12 women, selected from 1600 applicants hailing from France,Great Britain, Germany, Finland, The Netherlands, Poland and the Czech Republic began the study after a 20 day screening for baseline comparison data as the study progressed.

The women will conduct all activities from eating, bathing, and reading while lying in hospital beds tilted headfirst at a six degree angle. This particular position, called head-down tilt bed rest was determined from previous studies to remove the vertical load of gravity on the body, inducing changes similar to what astronauts in a genuine weightless environment experience [1].

Long term exposure to weightlessness creates a number of physiological and psychological problems in astronauts such as:

 • Reduced capacity for physical exertion
 • Muscle atrophy
 • Affects of confinement and isolation
 • Impaired circulatory function

A total of 24 women will participate in the study. A second group of 12 will join in September.

Three groups of eight women each will be studied over the course of the two campaigns of bed rest. One group will serve as a control, receiving no specific treatments, the second will exercise, while the third will receive nutritional supplements.

The study is designed to fill in gaps of knowledge on the differences between men and women during extended weightlessness. It also aims to develop countermeasures for reducing the debilitating effects of long spaceflights.

Participating agencies in the study include the European Space Agency, NASA, the French Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.

Work From Home Employment Opportunities A Great Alternative To Traditional Office Jobs

Submitted by: Donalhj Penny

Many things are possible over the web like work from home employment opportunities. There are always options where and also what type of career we desire to do. Some people can choose the careers that they want to have. Surely should you be a college graduate you will discover more career offers to pick from plus the greater the academic attainment the more doors are opened. Once we decide to follow a choice it’d merely signify that we cut ourselves off from some other opportunities. In essence these are all the hard stress filled stuff we face whenever we have grown up enough to be aware that we need money. However let’s say there’s a method to avoid the stressful cycle, in which we could promptly get work with good pay and can work under a condition that people aren’t scared to become next on the terminated list. It is all possible at this point with technology.

As part of the labor force it’s horrible having conflicting obligations at work and at your family.. I had to give full attention to my job and that meant doing work overtime as well as on weekends. On the other hand whilst this happened I was missing on many of the important occasions of my family, for instance Christmas and the New Years. As time passed I didn’t even understand that my children were growing up. Those made me feel frustrated and depraved, plus there are still bills to be paid. A breath of fresh air emerged when one could get work via online. This work from home employment opportunities cover anything from administrative, clerical, accounting, information technology, legal, sales, instruction, editing programming, virtual assistants, writing, website design and hundreds more may very well be offered.

Applying for internet careers are better in ways given it is done on-line there are plenty of job offers with very good pay, many are even simple jobs that pay more than office work. Being employed on the net entails that individuals just need to have a laptop or computer and also a good internet connection and they may work typically anywhere they want. They could work from their home where they could be with family whilst working on the job. In this circumstance the travelling costs are reduced for the reason that they only need to stay on a single location to work. You may be traveling through the many lovely spots of Canada or state hopping in the USA and you could bring your work with you. In addition, should you be on a holiday and got nothing to do you could accept some online work, so that you could have more reserves in your upcoming vacation. Internet work is that versatile.

The best aspect about internet work is you don’t almost any educational attainment in some of the work from home employment opportunities, just like in photograph editing. There are many job opportunities which just need the smudges on the image to be erased. One merely will need some standard knowledge in using the computer and unless of course you do not know what or how to use the laptop or computer then you’ll find a problem. In addition you are able to decide whether you desire to work full-time, part time, where you are able to work on an office and then work online simultaneously. It is your decision.

There are lots of gains in work from home employment opportunities. In case this is your calling then you should truly have a shot at it. Do not instantly back down on such an opportunity and who knows this may open up many doors for you.

New Zealand Reserve Bank phone hacker not convicted

Thursday, September 28, 2006

Gerasimos Macridis, 39-years-old, left the court room discharged without conviction after hacking into the New Zealand Reserve Bank’s phone system and then asking for money for his services after pointing out these security flaws to both the Reserve Bank and Telecom New Zealand in May, 2006, and offering to fix them. He had identified himself as a security consultant.

The New Zealand Police then raided his home and took his computer on 21 September. Macridis told police that he did not think it was illegal, but knew he was not authorised to access the phone systems. Telecom then took him to court.

Colin McGilicray, police prosecutor, said: “Macridis has a significant number of previous fraud convictions and it appeared he was trying to obtain money through virtue of his technical knowledge.”

Macridis, who represented himself, told the court that for 11-years he had worked as a casual security consultant and he had worked for Telecom, police and Department of Internal Affairs.

Macridis thought himself as an honest, law abiding citizen as his 1994 conviction had ‘turned his life around’.

Judge Ian Mill said this case was very unusual and also noted that Macridis ended his offending over 10-years ago.

Mill said: “Macridis used his talents to identify security risks and he had identified a grave risk to the Reserve Bank and its customers. Macridis provided a report of his findings, requested payment albeit without a contract and for his troubles was prosecuted. He did not pass the information on to others and did not use it for personal gain.”

“In my view his intentions were honourable,” Mill added.

Mill discharged him without conviction on the basis that a conviction would be out of proportion with his actions.
