Andhra University

is situated amidst lush green surroundings in the Waltair highlands on the east coast. It is the first to be named after a language of South India and also the first to be considered as a residential cum affiliating university largely dedicated to PG courses and research. Ever since its beginning, the University of Andhra has had a flawless record of catering to the learning needs and resolving the sociological issues of the area. The University is persistent in its efforts to maintain the standards of education and research, ensuring appropriate personality building and growth amongst the students, encouraging society developing programmes, promoting management in young people and inculcating a feeling of responsibility to become fine citizens and striving for brilliance in all areas.

The Peer group analyzed the strong points and weaknesses of the institute and assessed the University with A\\’ grade giving it the greatest percentage amongst the State Universities of Andhra Pradesh. The University planned and implemented the Quality Management System effectively and became the primary common University in India to get ISO 9001: 2000 Certification in 2006.

Situated in the uplands of Visakhapatnam, \\’The City of Destiny\\’, the natural exquisiteness of the campus is overwhelming; with the stretch of the tranquil blue shade of the \\’Bay of Bengal\\’ on one side and the stunning green Kailasagiri hills on the on the other. The campus of the University consists of all essential facilities like hostel, clubs, health centre, library, etc. Being a residential university the facility of hostels is available for both boys and girls, although for a restricted number of students who are not from Visakhapatnam. They can seek the facility of accommodation by applying to the Hostel s Chief Warden.

Among the various facilities available within the campus, medical facility for both allopathic and homoeopathic is available. There are 2 allopathic centres, one in the North and other in the South Campus. To keep the students fit and active the Physical Education department has exposed them to every kind of sport. Apart from this the college also has a fitness centre. There are 2 play grounds within the campus, The Silver Jubilee and the Golden Jubilee Play ground. The University of Andhra keeps on conducting a variety of yoga camps from time to time which are conducted in the Yoga Village on the beach road, close to the Institute for Yoga and Consciousness.

The library of Andhra University is a paradise for book lovers and has a great collection of books. It is built overlooking the sea. The library has periodicals, journals, references, acquisitions and technical divisions apart from the Computers and Administrative sections. If we talk about reaching the university then public transportation is easily available in plenty for every day commutation. However the administration has provided sufficient transportation facilities to students and staff to reach the college from distant places.

The Mescon Fest which is a science and technology fest includes paper presentation of Thermal Engineering, Design Engineering, Environment friendly technologies and others. With the aim to create a development fund, the University of Andhra has set up a Resource Mobilisation Cell with units like Consultancy, Alumni and infrastructure Management. Andhra University became the first university in India to be felicitated with the esteemed Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Public Relations, Marketing and Communications award. The award was received by the Press Relations Officer of the university Mr. C. Ramakrishna in public relations for the year 2005-06 during the international conference in Toronto.
